HFS Paddle Flow Switch is an automatic control unit which switches on or off in response to the flow or non-flow of a liquid media. The switch typically operates through the use of a paddle which gets displaced due to the force of fluid moving past it. 

Flow switches enable the reliable and process-safe monitoring of fluid. When the flow is above or below the set value, built-in SPDT micro switch activates downstream regulator or control, such as a pump, an alarm, a water chiller or heat exchanger. Damage and production losses through degradation of pumps, tools and spindles can thus be avoided.

Unpack and remove plastic cover. Install in piping with the arrow pointing in the direction of flow. The switch should be installed vertically on horizontal pipe or vertical pipes where liquid runs upwards. When mounting the flow switch in vertical pipes, you must compensate for the weight of the paddles on the adjusting screw for the switch-on/off values. To ensure a steady working flow, make certain to keep the paddle flow switch a safe distance from sources of turbulence such as elbows, valves, pumps, etc. The recommended minimum distance upstream and downstream of the flow switch is about 5 times of the pipe’s diameter. 


1. when installed, make sure that the paddle has full range of motion and is not hindered by contacting the wall of a pipe, bushing, or tee. 

2. when wiring and adjusting, disconnect the power supply to avoid electric shock.

3. the flow switch can not be used where the liquid in the pipes will drop below the liquid’s freezing point, causing an internal freeze-up.  

4. the flow switch is design for used only as operating controls. It is the responsibility of the installer to add devices (safety, limit controls) or systems (alarm, supervisory systems) that protect against or warn of control failure.




1. For higher flow rate switching value, spin the screw counter clockwise to tighten range adjusting spring.

2. For lower flow rate switching value, spin the screw clockwise to loosen range adjusting spring.

3. Over loosen range adjusting spring may causes failure of switching. Check it by pressing the paddle pole several times to see if built-in SPDT micro switch “clicks” upon return every time.

4. Micro switch positioning screw is not intended to be changed. Adjustment attempts may damage the control or cause loss of calibration.

5. before leaving, observe at least three complete operating circles to ensure that the flow switch and the system to which it is connected are functioning correctly.
